Notice of Public Comment Period – Amendments to MATS 2050 MTP and MATS FY 202 – 2027 TIP (4/15/2026)

Notice is hereby given that the Macon Area Transportation Study Metropolitan Planning Organization (MATS MPO) intends to amend the FY 2024 – 2027 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (2050 MTP), at the meeting of their Policy Committee on May 6, 2026.

On March 19, 2026, Georgia Dept. of Transportation – Office of Planning Division advised MATS MPO of the need for the following amendments:

Amend MATS 2024 – 2027 TIP as follows:

  • Add GDOT Project #0017395 (SR 247/US 41 @ CR 5104/CR 5481/Anthony Rd) to Chapter 2 (Road and Bridge Projects)
  • Add GDOT Project #0020272 (Rest Area #19 @ I-475 NB in Bibb County) to Chapter 2 (Road and Bridge Projects)
  • Update Chapter 3 (Funding) to reflect the following updates in State and Federal funding:
    • Addition of $4,385,597.00 to account for the addition of GDOT Project #0017395
    • Addition of $2,550,069.00, to account for the addition of GDOT Project #0020272

Amend MATS 2050 MTP as follows:

  • Update Tables 6-2 through 6-4 , and associated narratives in Chapter 6 – Roads and Bridges Projects, to reflect updated project costs for GDOT PI #0017395 and GDOT PI #0020272
  • Update Tables 8-1 through 8-6, and associated narratives in Chapter 8 – Fiscal Assessment, to include additional revenues and demonstrate continued fiscal constraint after the proposed amendments for the FY 2024 – 2027 TIP. After accounting for the proposed amendments, the 2050 MTP Roads and Bridges project list maintains a positive funds balance in the amount of $161,206,552.56.

In accordance with the requirements and procedures set forth in the MATS MPO Public Participation Plan, a public comment period on the initial draft plans will be open from April 16, 2026 through May 1, 2026.  Comments can be e-mailed to Dr. Michael J. (Mike) Greenwald (mgreenwald@mbpz.org)
